MAXXTech won three gold stars in our book doing well with accuracy and consistency. The low-cost rounds appeared to have no negative effect on accuracy at 15 yards and held standard grouping sizes. We fired 100 rounds through each 9mm handgun and did not experience any malfunctions. Our first test, with the MAXXTech ammunition, set the bar very high. These are the only rounds we fired that had Boxer primers, and the only rounds that had reloadable brass shells. MAXXTech 9mm used brass casings, 115-grain bullets, with Boxer primers. Then we determined our top pick from the results of the tests. We measured the accuracy, consistency, and effect each brand had on the firearms. Each session, we put about 100 rounds through each pistol. We stripped, cleaned, and oiled each 9mm handgun before each range test. As we test more brands we will keep updating this list with our new findings.įor our tests, we used an HK VP9 and a Gen 3 Glock. We tested three inexpensive brands to find the best brand to keep us shooting: TulAmmo, MAXXTech, and Ozkursan. We decided to find out which cheap brand is the best for your 9mm handgun or CCW so you can keep practicing without breaking the bank. Finding the best cheap ammo for the most commonly used ammo caliber is now more important than ever. And when you need practice, you need Federal.Since the start of the pandemic, ammo prices have risen steadily making affordable range ammo hard to find. If you want to fend off the zombie horde, you need practice. Federal manufactures all their ammunition at their plant in Anoka, Minnesota, and maintains the highest standards. And they’ll punch a nice hole in your targets as well, with a muzzle energy of 345 foot-pounds. These are truly fast target rounds they have a muzzle velocity of 1,120 feet per second. That’s good, because lighter cartridges keep recoil lower, so your hands won’t be tired too quickly. Simple.Īt 124 grain these are lightweight for the cartridge. Fire, collect spent brass, reload, and fire again. But don’t worry, Federal knows the mind of the high-volume shooter, and these are new production, fresh brass, boxer-primed cases, so they can be reloaded. There are 1,000 rounds in this box of ammunition, and you’ll fire this entire stash faster than you might think. Of course, even when you’re plinking, you’re sharpening your marksmanship skills, so even when you’re not technically training, you’re still getting practice time. These Federal rounds are FMJ, so they’re meant for target practice, tactical training, and plinking. In fact, in 1986, the book Handloading said “the modern science of wound ballistics has established beyond reasonable doubt that the 9mm cartridge is highly effective.” They’re good at longer distances, too the 9mm Luger was originally created to be lethal up to 50 meters, but testing proved the round is capable of lethality at far greater distances. The stereotype might be rifles and shotguns, but handguns are easier to carry, work better in close quarters, and your 9mm has a higher magazine capacity than many guns. If you think a 9mm is inadequate for zombies, you’re wrong. There are lots of reasons to have large quantities of ammunition, from training to plinking to the threat of a zombie apocalypse. High-volume shooters are happy shooters, and if you’re a fan of the 9mm, these Federal 9mm 124 grain FMJ rounds can make you a happy shooter.
